This book is the result of my attempt to document the facts relating to my appointment as a judge and the controversies surrounding it. In this account, I have recorded the reliable information I received, the news reports that serve as evidence, and my conversations with those involved in the collegium appointment process. If readers come to understand from this book that the collegium system does not, in any meaningful way, protect judicial independence, and that political interference in judicial appointments is commonplace, it will strengthen the case for creating a new procedure for appointing judges.
